THE RN SNOWSPORTS FESTIVAL, IS THE ROYAL NAVY WINTER SPORTS ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL SPORTING EVENT FOR DOWNHILL SKIING, TELEMARK, AND SNOWBOARDING, OPEN TO ALL ROYAL NAVY PERSONNEL, MARITIME RESERVES AND VETERANS AS WELL AS THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. 

WASTELAND TRAVEL IS THE OFFICIAL TOUR OPERATOR OF THE RNWSA AND WORK CLOSELY WITH YOUR COMMITTEE IN ORDER TO CONSTANTLY DELIVER A BRILLIANT EVENT FOR ALL ATTENDEES. 

THE FESTIVAL TAKES PLACE OVER 2 WEEKS IN JANUARY AND IS ATTENDED BY OVER 700 PERSONNEL.

TRIPPERS TAKE PART RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN THEIR CHOSEN DISCIPLINE FROM SPECIALIST RN INSTRUCTORS AND ALSO PARTICIPATE IN RACES APPROPRIATE TO THEIR LEVEL.

 
 

Lesson Information

To receive on-duty status, all RN serving personnel must participate in lessons and the appropriate races available. Lessons are conducted by RN instructors (local instructors may be used if required to cover numbers. Your instructor will speak English). You must attend all lessons or you will be charged for lessons missed and risk your on-duty status.

If you are a civilian or veteran, lessons and racing are not compulsory. If you opt for lessons there will be a charge.

The lesson meeting point will be in the main Jandri square in the centre of Les Deux Alpes.

Level 1 - The aim of the Level 1 course is to provide the skills required for a student to be able to use the slopes/tracks safely within a recognised on-piste area. No previous experience necessary; 5 days culminating in an easy, fun GS race.


Level 2 - The aim of the Level 2 course is to build on the foundation skills learned on the Level 1 course with an emphasis on gaining confidence while developing new skills. Have attended the RNWSA Level 1 course, SF1 at NOCG, or around 5 -10 days on-snow experience;be able to plough turn and safely navigate any Blue terrain. 5 days culminating in a timed Giant Slalom (GS) race on a moderate slope or equivalent.  


Level 3 - The aim of the Level 3 course is to build on the central theme activities learned in the Level 2 course with an emphasis on the BASI performance strands.  Have previously attended the RNWSA Level 2 course, SF2 at NOCG or around 18 days on-snow experience. They are able to link turns competently and complete a red run fully under control. Competitors may be divided into lower/upper depending on ability/confidene and will be seeded by their instructors for the appropriate competition. Must compete in one of the following races:

  • Alpine Slalom or Giant Slalom 

  • Snowboard Parallel or Banked Slalom, Slopestyle & Snowboard Cross

  • Telemark GS Classic, Sprint or Parallel.

 

Level 4 - The aim of the Level 4 course is to develop the performance strands learned in the level 3 package on more challenging terrain.  Have attended and deemed competent at a previous RNWSA Level 3 course, SF3 at NOCG or around 36 days on-snow experience and can ride any terrain with full confidence. Must compete in two of the following races:

  • Alpine Slalom, Giant Slalom & Ski X

  • Snowboard Parallel or Banked Slalom, Slopestyle & Snowboard Cross

  • Telemark GS Classic, Sprint or Parallel.
